Torchwood series finale
Well, that's it for me and Torchwood, I think.  Which is a pity, because I enjoyed the first half of this series a lot.  However after this I don't think I can be bothered to watch any more.

Reason 1: they killed off the only two characters I'm really invested in on the show.  Jack bores me, I hate Gwen and Ianto is amusing but little more.  I won't be tuning in to watch them.

Reason 2: they killed those two characters off in such a way that I wasn't moved at all.  Quite a feat!  With Owen I think the impact was lessened because he's already been killed once this series, and so I didn't believe it had really happened, because they didn't show him dying and there's such an easy get-out clause to resurrect him.  I was expecting him to turn up for the rest of the show and I'm still half expecting him to turn up next season.  if he does I still won't be watching because one resurrection is fine, two is jerking the audience around.
I don't really know why Tosh's death didn't affect me.  I think maybe I was too aware they were pushing all the emotional buttons - the dragging herself to the communicator, lying to Owen that she's fine, the death in Jack's arms, the farewell computer message - it was all done rather clinically and I wasn't caught up in the emotion enough to ignore it.

Reason 3: the rest of the episode bored me.  Grey was a one note villain - his hate and revenge spiel just didn't ring true - maybe because it was badly acted.  John Barrowman once again overacted terribly in his big dramatic scenes - he's great at the light comedic side of Captain Jack but he's just not up to the emotional angst.  In the Declassified afterwards the producers were going on about the 'unexpected twist' to Jack & Grey's reunion - well it wasn't unexpected to me at all (especially after Captain John did his 'I'm being controlled' speech right before Grey turned up).

So I think it's goodbye to Torchwood.  I gave it two series (and I nearly gave up after the finale of the last series, which was also disappointing) and that's enough.  There's too much else to watch.

On better news, the new series of Doctor Who starts tomorrow night.  I'm looking forward to seeing how Catherine Tate works out as the new companion, particularly as apparently there will be no romantic tension between them, which makes me cheer.  I'm an old school Who fan who doesn't really like all the Companion romance.  I could never see what made Rose more special than the other Companions, and the Martha mooning annoyed me no end because it ruined her promising character, IMO.

And finally BSG - I thought it was airing in the UK next Tuesday, but it turns out they're showing Razor then and the new episode is the week after.  That's surprisingly little time lag compared to previous seasons though, so I'm happy.  The short time lag means I will watch it on UK TV pace, so I will be a little late to all the discussions and please don't spoil me! :)

When you said that about waiting for BSG, I feel so sad for you. Two more weeks . . . bummer. Reminds me to put spoilery warnings for all the folks over there.

I had my own private Season 3 DVD catch-up this week to get ready. My hub teases me something fierce about BSG and Apollo, but he's always right there on the sofa when the show comes on.

It is hard having to wait that little extra time - mainly because it's very hard not to get spoiled online. :)
Hope the new episode was good and Lee got some screen time!

I too can't wait for Dr. Who tonight. :) I don't know about Catherine Tate though - I hope her character is less annoying and whiny than in the Christmas special because I detested her there. As for Rose - I didn't mind a wee bit of the romance stuff (very wee) but Martha just bored me to tears after the first episodes. She was very promising in the first ones but once she started the teenage angst 'I love him and he doesn't even notice me' she just became irritating.

Yay for BSG airing quickly in the UK! I thought most of the world (outside North America) had terrible lag times - that's why so many people download illegally. I'm glad you can watch and only be a couple of weeks behind instead of half a year or more. :)

Torchwood. Never liked it. Period. I watched the first 3 episodes and hated it. Tried again with the first episode of the second season and it was even worse! Mind you, I have real issue with the homosexual stuff so that didn't help, but no plot, flimsy characters and I HATE Gwen. I think you're right about John Barrowman. He does the light comedy so well, which is why he was fantastic guesting on Dr. Who, but I think he WAY overdoes the dramatic and it just becomes stupid.

Nice to see you around again! You've been MIA a while. Hopefully things are just busy with Matthew but still going well. :)

Yes, I haven't been around much recently. I had a nasty cold and Matthew's been teething, and I haven't had much energy in the evenings to do more than watch TV. Things are better now, but I've fallen so far behind with fic and posts (I know I'm chapters behind on yours for example). I'll catch up with it all eventually.

How are you? Hope all is well with you and your family.

Don't know if you've seen the new Doctor Who episode yet, but I thought it was very enjoyable, and Catherine Tate was much more likeable than in the Runaway Bride.

I know the feeling. Life has gone from the usual crazy to downright horrible lately. I had no internet for 4 days (ah!) and then a pipe burst in our bathroom and we're going to have to have the bathroom and kitchen ripped apart and redone. *sigh* I'm waiting for an electrician right now to let us know if our stove needs it's last rites - it had a waterfall pouring down on it the other night and I'm afraid it might just be dead.

I did enjoy Dr Who very much. Catherine Tate didn't impress me in the Christmas special the other year but I liked her here. I'm looking forward to more this week!

Take care and I hope you find more time for you. :)

Oh dear, so sorry to hear you are having so many hassles at the moment. I hope everything gets sorted out soon. I'm having car trouble myself at the moment - sorting that kind of thing out takes up so much time.

Not seen the new DW yet, my husband is abroad, so waiting to watch it till he gets back later this week.

Take care and I return the wish - I hope you can find some time for you this week. :)

Thank you. Things are getting easier. Though it's still tough when my kitchen is a huge mess. :)

Good luck with the car. And enjoy DW when you get to it.
